Day 1 April 8  Tue

Arrival at Lima Airport
Lodging: Transfer to Hotel Bonbini

  Welcome at Lima airport, reception and transfer to your hotel.

Day 2- April 9 Wed

Lima City tour Introduction to the City of Kings.
Welcome dinner at Huaca Puccllana Restaurant

After breakfast we will visit the most attractive and important sites in Lima, the "City of Kings". The tour includes Lima's Historical Centre, passing by Plaza San Martin and Plaza Mayor and Government Palace, the flavour of the colonial times will be felt as we take some pictures of Lima's Colonial Balconies.   After lunch we will visit the Convent and Church of San Francisco, the greatest monumental complex of Colonial Art in America and Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The tour includes a visit to the Basilica of 21 altars, Convent of Cloisters, Capitulary and Clementine Rooms, Chorus and Library of the priests, a Museum showing 11 paintings of the Rubens School, the Sacristy with paintings of Surbaran and Ribera, its great patio decorated with Seville tiles of the XVIth Century, Moorish arches and underground Catacombs. 
For dinner we will go to a special restaurant La Huaca Puccllana. “Located in an unparalleled setting, within the compound of 1,500-year-old construction of an adobe pyramid built by the original inhabitants of Lima, it is one of the city's greatest dining surprises. A beautiful and serene upscale restaurant with knockout views of the pyramid, secluded in the midst of Lima's chaotic jumble”  
 

Day 3 April 10 Thur

  After breakfast we will visit a fabulous museum that will give us an idea of the richness of the Peruvian culture.
 We will then enjoy a beautiful lunch at one of Limas famous seafood restaurants.
After lunch you are free to revisit the beautiful central city area, explore around the Lima Center churches and Historical buildings or take a siesta in preparation for our long train journey the next day!
                       

Optional: Day Trip to Nasca Lines Aditional                                  Cost: $380.00 USD per / person
FULL DAY: Lima - Nasca - Lima

Morning transfer to Lima Airport. Assistance on departure flight to Ica, upon arrival, change to a smaller high-wing light aircraft for over flight of the mysterious Nazca Lines, enormous line drawings of animals, birds and geometric figures, which have remained etched in the desert for millennia and which can only be appreciated from the air. How the lines were made and their purpose is still an enigma.

After lunch in Ica, visit the Regional Museum of Archaeology and the Huacachina Lagoon (time permitting). In the afternoon, return flight to Lima. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel.

Day 4 April 11 Friday

Trip to Huancayo in the Highest Railroad of the Andes                     Lodging: Hotel Turismo                                                                     Meals included: Breakfast / lunch / dinner
 

At 7 am we will be boarding this famous train. The trip is an incredible ride from sea level up to 4758 m.a.s.l in a short time, (about 4 hours) passing through amazing landscape with vegetation and mountains with different textures and colours. 

After Ticlio and Galera the highest Train stations we start descending to the other side of the Andean mountains, passing by mining towns and reaching Jauja and then finally Huancayo at about 6pm.

Historical  visit

After breakfast we visit traditional villages including Wari where we can see a Pre Inca Temple…  Chongos the first town with a small church in the Mantaro valley and location of the Inquisition, then on to Chupaca small market and then to Ahuac and the Pre-Inca ruins with an amazing view of the Ñahuinpuquio Lake and the Huaytapallana snow mountains.   A fascinating trip to areas rarely visited by tourists. 

Day 6 April 13 Sunday

Sunday Market and Pachamanca lunch                                     Lodging: Hotel Turismo                                                 Meals Included: Breakfast & Lunch 
  The ‘longest’ market in Peru is full of colours and life on Sundays and you can find a variety of items coming from all the different villages around Huancayo. Passing through crafts and all kinds of items for a few hours might get us ready to savour one of the best foods in Peru: Pachamanca a version of the Hangi also a traditional Peruvian meal. We can take part in the preparation of this special meal.

Day 7 April 14 Monday

Craft trip around the Mantaro Valley                                         Lodging: Hotel Turismo                                                                 Meals included: Breakfast / lunch.
  For those who like early starts we can visit the nearby local market which is full of smells, colours and activity.  This is a fascinating look at the daily lives of these friendly people.
We leave Huancayo at 9:30 a.m. Our first stop will be a surprising little spot ... Parque de la Identidad, a nice Stone-Crafted Park. Here we enjoy the legends and traditions of the Mantaro Valley. The Park´s style is a type of Gaudi Arquitecture, mixed with Peruvian Craft.  We then go to Cochas, a village famous for its Carved Gourds. We will visit the families who work these special crafts and will watch a demonstration of their work. Next stop is Hualhuas, a village of weavers, and we can see the different kinds of tapestries, blankets and sweaters. You will learn from the artisans about native cameloids, fibres and wools, as well as natural dyes and spinning techniques Leaving Hualhuas we will travel to San Jeronimo, where the silverwork is the specialty and we will see a skilful demonstration by Peruvian hands A fun morning of crafts and culture gone, we travel to Ingenio to enjoy some good trout. There are many varieties of delicious trout dishes and we are in the valley of the producers of the freshest trout lunch! Now we go to a historical place ... The Ocopa Monastery, the starting point of the missions to the jungle by the Franciscan Monks, commencing in 1725. Here is your chance to understand how religion has influenced our culture, leaving a deep mark in our history.  We leave Ocopa, making our way back to Huancayo, ending our circuit at La Cabaña. This full day guided excursions will show you the real lives of the people of our Mantaro Valley.
 

Day 8  April 15 Tuesday

Bus Trip to Lima

Leaving Huancayo early, we experience a pleasant journey by bus going back over the Andes. Now more acclimatized to the altitude the journey is easier and shorter. Arriving in Lima, we have a short rest then after dinner  we will show you the best Pisco Sour in Lima city.

 Day 9 April 16 Wednesday

Flight to Puerto Maldonado- Arrival:11:00AM                              Lodging: Jungle Lodge

At 6:30 am we will be ready to take you to the airport where on the shores of this lake and we can take a short night walk to listen to this fascination night world.                                                                                      

we leave for Puerto Maldonado, the nature capital of Peru. The 54-minute flight takes you from the sea level over the snow capped Andes mountains to the low jungle capturing an impressive view of rivers winding their ways through the dense green Amazon Forest ... just the flight is a must-see!!! This pristine rainforest hosts an ecosystem more beautiful and complex than any in the world. Arriving in Puerto Maldonado, we can leave our big luggage in a safe hotel and take just a change of clothes and necessities like mosquito repellent and sunscreen in a smaller overnight bag. We will board a boat, eat some snacks, and travel down the Madre de Dios River.  We will then enjoy a beautiful walk of about an hour to a lake where we can canoe and see the diversity of plants, birds and other exotic creatures.  Our jungle lodge is on the shores of this lake and we can take a short night walk to listen to this fascination night world.

Day10 April 17 Thursday

Lake Sandoval
Lodging: Jungle Lodge

We begin this day early in the morning canoeing around the beautiful Sandoval Lake…the canoes are big enough for the whole group so you can sit back and relax and let our guides show us the sights.  It is possible to see a wide variety of jungle birds, parrots, macaws, bats, caiman, monkeys, sloth and with luck the giant otters. 
There are piranhas in these waters, so we can eat them, rather than the other way around!  After breakfast we will take a jungle nature walk.  There is a wide assortment of wildlife from trees the size of small houses that are draped with vines, fruits and fauna, to miniature hummingbirds, insects, monkeys, squirrels, wild pigs and other mammals.  We have to be quiet and alert on our walk so that we don’t startle the many creatures that inhabit these forests.  There are also snakes and tarantulas, but no worries, they are more afraid of us than we are of them. After dinner, we go for an evening canoe. Canoeing by night under a bright moon surrounded by the noises and shadows of the jungle is a magical feeling!!

Day11 April 18 Friday

Puerto Maldonado and flight to Cusco  -  arrival 1pm

  Early in the morning you will return to Madre de Dios River and travel back to Puerto Maldonado where we will collect our luggage and go the to airport for our flight to Cusco.   After lunch we will be going for a City tour around the Cusco City area. The Cathedral, Inca Palaces and other important historical areas will be part of this special walk around the city. Cusco is a lovely and unique city.

Day12 April 19 Saturday

Sacred Valley, train to Aguas Calientes                                           Lodging: Hotel La Cabaña                                                                 Meals included: Breakfast / lunch

  After Breakfast we take a bus to enjoy the early sunrise over the cyclopean stones of Sacsayhuaman some of them weight over 30 tonnes.                                                                                      Near is another archaeological complex: Qènqo, then we continue to Tambo Machay. This is our chance to learn about Andean Religion and organization.  We continue going up over the pass and later to enjoy the view of the Sacred Willca Mayu known also as Urubamba passing the little villages until we reach Pisac with its colourful market and impressive archaeological remains from Inca times. After this visit we will stop at a nice restaurant for lunch. Then we continue to the town of Ollantaytambo which is the best surviving example of Inca planning with its narrow cobblestones streets inhabited since the 13th century. After  Ollantaytambo,  we  take our train to Aguas Calientes. On arrival in Aguas Calientes we will go to  La Cabaña Hotel. If you want to go for a swim at the hot springs it is a short walk from our Hotel.

Day13 April 20 Sunday

Machu Picchu Visit and return to Cusco                                      Lodging: Hotel Loreto

We get up very early (5:30am) to have breakfast at 6:00am before heading to Machu Picchu. We will be among the first to arrive and a local guide will show us around and explain in detail this special place. After the official explanation we can go for a little climb up to Huayna Picchu or venture to the Inca Bridge. At about 1pm we return to Aguas Calientes, where we have lunch before departing by train back to Cusco.  This will be a pleasant and scenic journey through the Urubamba valley.

Day14 April 21 Monday

You can have a full day to enjoy Cusco. Laundry, Internet, museums plus many places to get nice crafts. This is a free day to catch up on things…we are available to take you around or you may choose to spend time by yourselves or small groups.  

Day15 April 22 Tuesday

Free day
Lodging: Hotel Loreto
Meals included: Breakfast
  Experience has shown that one free day in Cusco is not enough!!  You can go to museums, sit around the main square, have a coffee at one the many restaurants or you can enjoy the beautiful streets of Cusco.  Once again we are available to take you around if you wish.

Day16 April 23 Wednesday

Bus trip to Puno. 
Lodging: Hotel Casa Andina
Meals included: Breakfast / lunch / dinner
  After Breakfast we will take our bus to Puno. This is a long journey but with stops to visit the Andahuaylillas church in a little village in the midst of nowhere with incredible murals and a floor to ceiling altar covered in gold leaf, then on to Raqchi to visit the even more impressive  Wiracocha temple.  We travel through the spectacular altiplano and reach La Raya at 4313 meters above sea level, where it is very high and very cold. Finally we arrive in Puno and enjoy the busy atmosphere of one of the highest cities in the world!

Day17 April 24 Thursday

Titicaca Lake, Los Uros Islands and Taquile
Lodging:  Homestay on Taquile Island
Meals included: Breakfast / lunch / dinner
 

After an early breakfast we leave at 7am with a special ride to the port. The boat trip will take us to visit the Uros on their floating islands and then the Island of Taquile where we will spend the night. This is a very interesting experience as their unique way of life, crafts and weaving is fascinating.  We will leave our luggage at the Hotel in Puno and take an overnight bag as we will have to carry it a little way during our walk to the homes where we will stay.  You will need warm clothing, sunscreen and sunhats.

Day 18 - April 25 Friday

Return to Puno
Lodging: Hotel Casa Andina
Meals included: Breakfast / lunch
   After breakfast we will have a short weaving demonstration at our home stay, after which we will go to the main area of Taquile for lunch, then down to the port. The boat leaves at 1pm from the port and takes some 3 hours to get to Puno. Our transport will take us to our hotel.    

Day19 April 26 Saturday

Bus to Chivay
Lodging: Hotel Casa Andina
Meals included: Breakfast / lunch / dinner

 

We will leave Puno early on a private bus and enjoy a long but fascinating journey to Chivay.  We will stop to visit the ruins of Sillustani and visit local people in their stone houses.  We will pass herds of llamas, alpacas and vicuñas, and maybe even spot some pick flamingos.  If we arrive early enough we can enjoy a walk to a nearby village and you can bathe in La Calera Hot Springs.
 

Day20 April 27 Sunday

Trip to Cruz del Condor then to Arequipa
Lodging:  Hotel Casa de Melgar
Meals included: Breakfast / lunch
                                              
  After an early breakfast we leave by bus leaving for Cruz del Condor. This special spot is well known because the giant condors like to glide over the deep canyons so let’s cross our fingers. Around this area we can also see the Andean rodents called vizcachas, and of course enjoy the beautiful terraced fields. Then we continue our trip through beautiful villages with their Colonial churches arriving  to Arequipa at the end of the day.  

Day21 April 28 Monday

Trip to Explore Arequipa. Flight to Lima
Lodging: Hotel Bonbini
Meals included: Breakfast / lunch
  Today you will visit the famous Santa Catalina Convent, then have free time to explore the central city of Arequipa with its beautiful colonial buildings.
We will have our farewell lunch in a special place in Arequipa.
We will fly back to Lima in the late afternoon.
Transfer to your Lima Hotel. End of services.

We provide most meals during your trip.  In Peru the main meal of the day is lunch so we provide lunches, and as Peruvian food is one of the most amazing cuisines of the world, we will try as many of the local delights that we can find!! I found on the last trip that many travellers prefer to eat light meals in the evening so often we have left this free for you to eat what you like…but we can go out as a group and offer suggestions.  On our free days we have left the meals up to you, apart from breakfast, as you may not wish to return for lunch if you are out exploring, or you may just like to collect some of the beautiful fruits available everywhere to snack on.
