Coming soon 2009 calendar of trips
Here is a brief description of this once in a lifetime journey:
Day 1
Upon your arrival in Lima, you will be met at the airport and taken to your hotel. Our first meeting will be at dinnertime.
Day 2
A visit to the Central part of Lima will help you to realize the over-powering imposition of our Spanish “Conquerors” and that of the Catholic Church. We will visit the Inquisition Museum and the Catacombs.
Day 3
This day we will travel to Huancayo, a city in the middle of the Andes, and a place alive with culture. The trip will take us parallel to those famous train tracks of the highest railroad in the world. Breath-taking views at a literally breath-taking altitude of 4758 metres! Along the journey we will have convenient stops to enjoy the views and to learn about the life of the Andean people who live near our stops. A welcome Mate de Coca upon your arrival at La Casa de La Abuela will be good for our heads and souls.
Day 4
A visit to a lively market with a variety of foods and fruits that will surprise you! There is a section for plants and elements for natural healing, and for ceremonial items used by our shamans - we can buy some bits and pieces. After our visit to the market we take a drive to Chongos Alto, a town with a historical church. Here is a clear example of the Spanish influence on our Andean culture - impositions, hidden beliefs, and live rituals since the 15th century! We return to Huancayo through beautiful countryside with a view of our holy Huaytapallana Snowy Mountains. During the evening in Huancayo we will prepare for our next part of our journey with our shaman friend.
Day 5
After breakfast we will make our first special contact with our energy center, the Huaytapallana Snowy Mountains. We will pass by small villages and huts of friends, apparently poor, but here you will learn a basic rule to enjoy life ... rich is not the one who has more but the one who needs less. We trek to the glacial lakes and on to the ice point to present our offering to the Apu. Our thoughts and best wishes towards a better life and improvement can be placed here, a ceremony in the most traditional and simple way being your first encounter with peaceful energy. Back down at our campsite we can enjoy a night of discussing and sharing our needs and experiences.
Day 6
After breakfast we participate in a ceremonial bath in the glacial waters to clean our bodies and souls for a new and better beginning. A special mix of flowers and perfumes will be poured over you to enrich your positive energy and to protect you from all negative feelings. We then go back to Huancayo and enjoy a sauna.
Day 7
This is a resting day for meditation, and a long sleep. For those who would like to, after lunch we can visit the craft village of Cochas, where a gourd carving tradition is expressed in the most amazing work.
Day 8
Time to go on ... we travel back to Lima, again a long journey. After some rest we can treat ourselves to dinner at a special restaurant.
Day 9
We fly to Cusco today, so we need an early start. We arrive in Cusco and settle into our hotel. After lunch we visit a famous Inca Temple, the Qóricancha (or Gold temple).
Day 10
Today is a day for a bit of exercise ... our legs will take us from Puka Pukara, a water sanctuary, to some hidden offering tables (Kusilluchayuc and Salonpunku). Then to the mysterious Quenko, and finally to the impressive Sacsayhuaman. The Incas were aware of the energy of the elements but the Spanish and the Catholic Church concentrated their power on their religion and their weird hunger for gold and wealth.
Day 11
Today we leave for Ollantaytambo, a beautiful Indian village where we will wander around ... this place is full of signs of beliefs and feelings of the people who lived here. This village is also a good resting point in preparation for our 4-day trek on the Inca Trail - toward the holy city of Machu Picchu.
THE INCA TRAIL
Day 12
We start at Chilca, just a few kilometers from Ollantaytambo. We trek almost parallel to the Willcamayu (Willca means God, Mayu means river) now known as Urubamba. Along this sacred river we will traverse up and down - yes it is tiring, but the views are just wonderful. We arrive at Llactapata and then press on to Huayllabamba. Here we camp for the night.
Day 13
We start early today ... as we have a demanding walk up to Warmihuañusqa, a pass 4200 metres high. It would appear sometimes like stairs to Heaven. When we reach the top, the highest pass of the trail, you will realize that you have completed the most difficult part of the trail, - so enjoy the challenge! Down to Pacasmayo stream, our lunch will be ready. Then we climb to our second pass, trek through Runkuraccay, and then on to the Sayaccmarca Pass of 3950 metres. Finally we arrive at our campsite.
Day 14
We leave Sayaccmarca after a short visit at the Archaeological complex. Sayacmarca means inaccessible, you will see why! Winding around this amazing trail will take us to Puyupatamarca, a place in the clouds ... this is a very special spot and the ceremonial baths still work. After Puyupatamarca we climb down more than 2000 steps into semi-tropical vegetation. Upon our arrival at Wiñay Wayna Archaeological group, we set up camp and prepare ourselves for an early morning to enjoy our visit to Machu Picchu.
Day 15
We start our walk just before dawn, following the same trail that our Indian people followed to this sacred city. We will wait for the sun to rise enlightening the highest Huayna Picchu and then Machu Picchu. Having the day to enjoy this incredible city, we will ensure that we explore some of the special sites, Intihuatana, the Temple of the Sun and some of the most remarkable buildings, before the large tourist groups arrive. Finally we will go to Aguas Calientes to wait for our train back to Cusco.
Day 16
We have a day to rest, do our laundry, write postcards and to enjoy the Cusco nightlife.
Day 17
We fly to the jungle ... a new world and a new experience! Upon arrival, we will have time for a short visit to the local jungle market before taking our boat down the Madre de Dios River. After our 1-hour boat ride and another 1 1/2 hour walk we are at Sandoval Lake. We rest at our nice lodging place and after lunch we can return to the lake to enjoy the wildlife, birds, plants and nature. A visit to the lake during the night is a remarkably peaceful experience. We will go for a canoeing trip in the night. The sky covered with stars, the jungle sounds and the right mental preparation provide the basic keys in taking our next step.
Day 18
We walk in the forest, becoming familiar with the environment. With this confidence, you can open up your mind and attitude to take an inward journey toward yourself – guided by our gifted jungle shaman friend ... a special wine is prepared carefully to share, little by little, permitting a very individual experience to take place. The key to profit from this experience is to be relaxed and to know that you are all in good hands. No worries or fears are allowed, as even if there is only a small fear it will grow during the session. Those who choose not to take the Ayahuasca mix will not be forced; it will be your own choice.
Day 19
A day to meditate and to exchange experiences. We leave this jungle paradise after lunch, to travel back to Pto. Maldonado.
Day 20
We take our plane to Lima. After depositing our luggage in the hotel we can go shopping. In the late afternoon, we meet again as a group for our Farewell Dinner at a very special place. ¡Salud!
