Day 1
Arrival in Lima. Welcome reception and transfer to your hotel. Meeting for group breakfast, visits to Rafael Larco Herrera Museum and craft galleries of high-quality items. This first day is an introduction to Peru through the main door - Lima. We will enjoy our visit to Rafael Larco Herrera Museum, an interesting place with textiles & ceramics from Pre-Inca times, as well as a collection of fine ceramics depicting Vicus erotic art. The craft galleries have improved their selections from different areas, with the galleries now housing a variety of textiles, ceramics, paintings, books and jungle crafts. Our lunch and dinner will display a contrast of Peruvian life - our lunch will be at a typical Peruvian restaurant, while dinner will be an excellent barbeque.

Day 2
Trip by bus or train (if available) to Huancayo. Arrival and transfer to your hotel. Welcome dinner with Peruvian folkloric music at La Cabaña restaurant.

The bus trip follows almost parallel to the famous railroad to Huancayo, the highest railroad in the world. The road winds around the Andes and passes through breathtaking landscapes of 4818 m high, before dropping down to amazing valleys with typical villages. Our final destination is Huancayo at 3242 m above sea level. After showers and a comforting coca tea, we will go to dinner at my restaurant La Cabaña. The welcome dinner is on us! Our group of local musicians will ensure that you feel as if you are breathing the air of the Andes.

Day 3
You deserve a late start today! At 10:00 a.m. we will visit the Sunday Fair. This market is the main attraction for many travelers, as every Sunday people from all around the valley come to Huancayo to sell their products. You will find anything from potatoes and animals to crafts & weavings. It is the biggest market in Peru. After lunch you can rest or return to the market, which goes until 4:30 p.m. Dinner will be at La Cabaña.

Day 4
Start the weaving course, select materials, spinning techniques, sling braiding demonstration. This day is an introduction to the weaving world of Peru. We will explain the whole process - from raw materials to the spinning and weaving points. You will have the opportunity to try the different techniques, and will also exchange experiences with our artisans. Local artists from different regions will give the demonstrations for the day.

Day 5
A day out of Huancayo to visit the villages of Hualhuas, San Jerónimo & Cochas. We will depart at 9:00 a.m. by bus to visit Cochas. This is the village where the baby carriers are made, on traditional back-strap looms. We will also have the chance to witness gourd carving. More importantly, we will have the opportunity to watch the people working in their usual environment, with their simple way of living. After Cochas we will travel to Hualhuas. With rustic pedal looms, you will watch the weavers produce the finest alpaca and sheep-wool tapestries. From Hualhuas, we will visit for a short time San Jerónimo, a village nearby with fine silver filigree works. This will complete a very busy day in the Mantaro Valley!

Day 6
Natural dye demonstration. Today we have the opportunity to learn one of the most traditional methods of color making. On display will be the techniques of dying wool with plants, roots, barks, lichens and cochineal.

Day 7
Several different traditional back strap looms on display, being skillfully operated for you to learn how they work. In all of these demonstrations you will be able to, under the teachings of the artisans, try these techniques yourself.

At the end of the day you may buy finished pieces, looms with half worked pieces, as well as dyed yarns and wools.

Day 8
A trip back to Lima - long at 6 hours - but an interesting trip. Already acclimatized and now with a sound knowledge of the country, you will surely feel more comfortable and relaxed. Arrival and transfer to your Hotel. We will have dinner at a restaurant in the central part of Lima, and then explore the city center. To complete the day we will go to a Peña - Folklorica to savor music and dance from our rich folklore.

Day 9
Fly to Cusco. Arrival & transfer to your Hotel. After organizing ourselves we will go for a wander around the old Cusco, capital of the Inca Empire. The 50-minute flight is, in itself, a nice experience. Upon our arrival in Cusco you will immediately find this unique city fascinating, full of history & culture. Our first views are the most impressive, so we will take our time not only to see, but also to feel this magic city.

Day 10
At 9:00 a.m. we will go to the Pisac Market, to explore and shop. This is a very colorful and interesting place, and we will have our lunch at one of the country restaurants. These markets have a wide variety of weavings, ceramics, and paintings, along with colorful stands selling fruit, vegetables and Peruvian dishes. The Indian people dressed in their traditional clothes, the streets, and the mountains make a complete atmosphere of traditional Andean life. In the evening we will return to Cusco to dine at a place where we can enjoy a bit of folklore. Those who have the energy can join me to dance at the Kamikase Bar!

Day 11
At 7:00 a.m. we depart for Machu Picchu by train, arriving at about 10 a.m. We remain at Machu Picchu all day, as it is one of the highlights of our trip.

There is a lot said and written about Machu Picchu, but to be there is a very personal experience for the traveler. You will surely enjoy this mysterious archaeological site, which was never discovered by the Spanish. After a day at Machu Picchu we will rest & relax in the hot springs at the village near our hotel.

Day 12
Travel back to Cusco. We will have an afternoon at leisure to wander around the city, exploring, shopping or just relaxing.

Day 13
Day tour around the archaeological park of Sacsayhuaman, Qenko, Puka Pucara, Salon Punku and Kusilluchallock - an easy, but very interesting walk.

Sacsayhuaman stands out as one of the most interesting constructions of the Incas. Stones of over 300 tons, standing smoothly carved, fitting perfectly with other stones zigzagging all around. We will also visit the quarry where the granite stones were cut for constructions. During this walk, an explanation of the religious beliefs and the organization of the Inca civilization will be made.

Day 14
Train trip to Puno. This train trip is a very special experience, traversing over 12,000 feet on the altiplano, and around the Andean Mountains. We will pass many villages along the way, stopping to pick up and drop off passengers. You will also experience many sellers and musicians at these stops. During this 12-hour journey you can try some roast lamb - Peruvian style; and you will also see herds of llamas & alpacas in their natural habitat. Finally reaching our destination at Puno, we can relax with a coca tea and a good rest.

Day 15
After breakfast at 8:00 a.m. we will leave for Taquile Island, visiting the famous Uros Floating Island on the way. The boat ride is on Lake Titicaca, which at 3818 m is the highest navigable lake in the world. Our first stop is at the Uros Islands, where a traditional group still lives the old ways of fishing and trading. It takes 3 hours to arrive at Taquile, which is an island with a strong weaving tradition. The walk up to the village will be tiring but worth it! In this region, the people dress and live differently. It almost feels like a different country! After lunch we will walk around the Island ... and we will spend the night in family houses.

Day 16
After breakfast we have a weaving demonstration on traditional backstrap looms & pedal looms, and also spinning with a spindle, demonstrated by children just over 5 years old! Weaving in Taquile is very important, with weaving being done by both men & women. Upon completion of the demonstration, we can visit the village for lunch & to explore the craft shops.

Day 17
A late morning, breakfast and travel. We must be down at the port by 1.00 pm to catch the boat back to Puno, for a good dinner, a good rest, and the luxury of a good hot shower!

Day 18

Here we can see a huge display of archaeological pieces from different Pre-Inca and Inca cultures, from the mountains to the coast. Afterwards we will have our Farewell Dinner by the sea, in one of the beautiful restaurants of Peru.
